Hendrik Hertzberg of The New Yorker has joined the long line of lefties sniffing at the questions about Barack Obama’s association with William Ayers, which dates at least to a campaign kick-off event in 1995 for Obama’s Illinois state senate race.
If John McCain had launched either his 1992 or 1998 U.S. Senate races at the home of an abortion clinic bomber from the mid-70s –even a repentant abortion clinic bomber– would that be a relevant issue in the campaign? Of course it would, and rightly so.
The reason so many liberal journalists are objecting to attaching significance to Ayers’ terrorist past is that they don’t view it as significant. It is obviously significant to vast numbers of Americans, and the diminishment of the issue by MSMers is just more evidence of a bias so deeply ingrained as to be invisible to the “journalists” who condemn last week’s question or the future questions about the Ayers-Obama connection.
