That’s a “prominent Democratic strategist aligned with the White House” talking to the Team Obama outpost at Politico in an article titled “Obama Plan: Destroy Romney.”
One of the advantages of having run before, of course, is that the candidate has already been extensively vetted by the process. I wrote at length about Romney’s vulnerabilities in my 2007 book about him, and the Obama playbook is pretty predictable –look at these layoffs; look at these flip-flops; he inspired Obamacare– and not likely to dent Romney at all if he is the nominee.
Which is why David Axelrod is working overtime to prevent that from happening.
But the rhetoric of the president’s strategists certainly isn’t in keeping with the president’s January speech after the Arizona massacre.
