OK, the Israelis are doing a very hard thing by releasing more than 100 convicted terrorists as a “first step” towards a comprehensive peace accord. Once again Israel has demonstrated its willingness to go an extra mile to achieve a lasting peace.
Only Nixon could go to China, as the old but true saying goes, and perhaps only Prime Minister Netanyahu can make a deal with the Palestinians. Conservatives will have to look past the sponsorship of Secretary of State Kerry and President Obama and trust that Israel’s leader is the best man to explore the possibilities of a deal that could endure, and which might also produce support from this American Administration for a united front and more than just words against the prospect of a nuclear Iran.
There are already signs that the new talks won’t get far, but if they do, national security conservatives are going to have to trust Netanyahu to do only that which makes sense for a secure Israel.
