Tonight’s Debate In Tampa
CNN’s moderators will no doubt try and spark a slugfest between the contenders, and perhaps that is inevitable.
But there is no reason that, as Mark Steyn said on my show Thursday, the GOP candidates cannot “question the assumptions behind every question.” Newt Gingrich has figured out that there is great support among GOP primary voters for responses that expose biased questions for what they are.
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have spent considerable time this year on critiquing the president’s incoherent foreign policy and they should both find opportunities to bring up the deteriorating situation in Egypt (see John Hinderaker’s report at Powerline), the brutal repression in Syria, and the Obama Administration’s indifference to the roiling turmoil surrounding Israel. If CNN’s questions run to the silly category that includes evolution and dominionism, any of the candidates would be well served by simply rebuking the moderator and turning to the serious issues that confront the nation and the world.
