The first is what I am reading right now, flying from CA to DC yesterday, and back to CA tomorrow after Meet The Press. It is as alarming as it is fact-based, beautifully-written and deeply reported: Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS by Washington Post reporter and Pulitzer winner Joby Warrick.
Warrick has been my guest in the past, when his riveting book Triple Agent: The al Qaeda Mole Who Infiltrated the CIA came out a few years ago. Now he is back with a look inside how ISIS came to be and why it is so deadly, so much to be genuinely feared but also fought.
My second suggestion is a book on the sort of leader one needs to fight the sort of enemy ISIS is: Churchill’s Trial: Winston Churchill and the Salvation of Free Government.
