Israel intercepted a drone sent from Gaza on Monday as it flew just off the shore of the port city of Ashdod, about 14 miles north of the Palestinian enclave, adding a new element to a week-old conflict.
Drones are not rocket bottle missiles, nor are the longer range rockets manufactured in Syria but launched from Gaza. Drones can carry explosives, and of course biological or chemical agents. If the war escalates it will be because the threat to Israel –both to its north and its south– is increasing. There is a butcher in Damascus who has been selling weaponry to the terrorists in Hamas. No serious Israeli official will wait to see if Hamas shows the “restraint” with regards to such weapons President Obama is urging on both sides.
