The Democrats end 2005 threatening filibusters on The Patriot Act Renewal and the Department of Defense appropriation bill. I compliment them on their candor, and hope every American is watching these debates very, very closely indeed.
Republican Gordon Smith of Oregon said he would support a motion to drop ANWR language but would not join a filibuster.
“I will vote for the bullets,” Smith said. “I feel duty-bound to make sure our troops have the means to defend themselves when they’re in harm’s way.”
The Democrats are counting on there being 40 senators willing to put the country’s security and the troops safety at risk for their political ends.
