The Obama Jobs Depression

The president and his team have nearly killed the great American new jobs machine. Resurrecting it will require a U-turn away from idiocies like the NLRB attack on Boeing’s plant in South Carolina, the job destroying approach of Obamacare, and these gigantic deficits.

Which is why the GOP leadership cannot blink now, cannot slash defense spending, cannot agree to even more ruinous tax hikes.

Nor can the GOP leadership deeply damage the home values of the middle class by limiting the interest deduction for home mortgage interest or cripple the not-for-profit sector by capping the charitable deduction.

Speaker John Boehner and House Leader Eric Cantor, SEnate GOP Leader McConnell and Senate GOP Whip Jon Kyl have to hear from voters that now is the time to stand firm and refuse another false compromise that doesn’t tackle the enormous problem of entitlement growth. If Dems aren’t even willing to correct the Medicaid over-extension in Obamacare, then these talks are a ruse. If the president wants to force a default and risk a market panic, that will be understood by the public as his choice, but it cannot be the GOP’s choice to keep borrowing or to cut defense.

The Hill switchboard is 202-224-3121. Call the leadership and tell them no more retreats and no more fake deals.

Today’s unemployment report is being dismissed by the president’s political team but everyone knows it threatens his re-election and thus leaves him in a very weak negotiating position as Sunday’s talks open. Unless the GOP provides the cover of an unnecessary compromise because they love the love of the Manhattan-Beltway media elite, the president will have to fold and entitlement reform and many other urgently needed measures should be in the debt ceiling authorization.

The House GOP folded in the spring show down. They cannot do so again and expect the House freshmen or the political forces that sent the GOP back with a majority to not notice.
