The Kasich Moment and the Brown Comparison
George Will explains that the Buckeye State is in for some enormous and much needed changes under its new governor John Kasich.
If Kasich succeeds in slashing tax rates and bringing school choice to Ohio, the state’s many advantages –terrific higher education and vast natural gas, water and transportation infrastructure– will yield a period of economic renaissance. Kasich’s combination of ebullience and smarts is founded on a deep faith, and the MSM should be watching him as a counterpart to California’s Jerry Brown, another veteran of public life who will be trying to trigger a Golden State comeback using very different methods. The paths of these two states, one governed almost entirely by Republicans and the other by Democrats, should tell the entire country a great deal about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to economic growth and personal achievement.
