No, the Tribe and the biggest job-killer in D.C. don’t have much to do with each other, but I am heading over to Phoenix Monday to watch an Indians-Angels game and broadcast from deep in the recesses of Goodyear Stadium which is the spring home of Cleveland.

To keep your political commentary needs met, here’s my Monday Washington Examiner column on two goals for the Congressional GOP.

One of those goals is the repeal of the job-killing tax on medical devices, and the other is a thorough vetting of the president’s nominee to run the Environmental Protection Agency, Gina McCarthy. Even now Senate staffers should be pulling together an exhaustive review of the agency’s record over the past four years and how its major rule-makings have fared in court. If Ms. McCarthy’s work at the agency has resulted in a terrible record before the federal courts, then why is she being promoted?

It wouldn’t hurt for the House committees with oversight authority to call Ms. McCarthy before them even before she gets to the Senate hearings on her record.  As my column notes, she is by all accounts a very smart individual, but the agency has been out-of-control for years.  That which gets rewarded gets repeated, and if Ms. McCarthy is confirmed why shouldn’t she take that as a signal to double down on all of her job-killing regulatory zeal?
