Transcripts of my interviews with Congressmen Ron DeSantis and Mike Pompeo are posted on the transcripts page, as is Thursday’s chat with Mark Steyn. DeSantis and Pompeo are both veterans, DeSantis deployed to Fallujah as legal advisor to Seal Commander; Pompeo is a West Point man. Like the third vet –Army Ranger, combat veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq Tom Cotton– who is also a Harvard law grad and a Congressman, Pompeo and DeSantis voted against the Omnibus spending bill that cut active duty/recent retiree pay. If the three Harvard Law grad vets in the House all vote against a measure cutting the benefits promised and earned by career military, maybe the House Leadership to listen to them and not pork-master Hal Rogers, of Kentucky’s 5th District.
But more than any other interview, this call explains why what the Congress did is so unjust. It is from Shannon, a military spouse of two-plus decades. Listen to it, and ask yourself whether the House GOP Conference retreat ought to invite on for more military spouses to address them –if they dare. Jen Pilcher, a military spouse of 17 years and the founder and CEO of www.MilitaryOneClick.com would be just perfect.
Here is Shannon’s call:
Now about contacting two Members of Congress.
Star with GOP Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who is organizing the House GOP retreat in two weeks. She voted the wrong way, and needs to hear from veterans as well as career military still on active duty and their spouses, and she specifically should be asked to invite a mil spouse or two or four like Jen Pilcher to address the Conference Retreat. Congressman McMorris Rogers’ DC office number is 202-225-2006. Her office in Spokane is 509-353-2374. Her email contact form is here, but you will have to use a Spokane zip code to get through to the next step. Try City Hall’s: 99201. Be polite but ask that the agenda of the House GOP retreat include mil spouses.
Then there is Kentucky’s Hal Rogers. He is the architect of this backstab of the career military, and he can be the architecht of its reversal, and career military and their spouses should let him know what they think by calling his office via the Congressional switchboard 202-225-3121, or by calling any of his offices:
551 Clifty Street
Somerset, KY 42503
WASHINGTON D.C. OFFICE:
Rogers’ office email “contact form” is designed to limit his having to hear from anyone who can’t vote for him by requiring address and zip code info. The address of City Hall in Corbin, Kentucky is 805 South Main Street. The zip code is 40701. Just saying. You can ask the City Hall staff in Corbin to forward you his response. But don’t limit yourself to the Corbin City Hall. Use any address within the Fifth to assure you get an answer from the Chairman:
Both Congressman DeSantis and Pompeo noted that this attack on the military got very little press and very few Members actually knew what they were doing. One of them noted that the Budget Ceiling is a must-pass bill and repeal can be attached to that or any other bill moving. If the family and friends of the military demand it be done, even Democratic Senators like Colorado’s Mark Udall –who made noises about his concern for the career troops and is up for re-election, or Democrat Kay Hagan of military-rich North Carolina, will oblige Harry Reid who couldn’t care less won’t block the repeal.
