Senator James Kankford of Oklahoma joined me this AM:
HH: I’m joined by United States Senator James Lankford of the great state of Oklahoma, a good friend of the show. Merry Christmas, Senator, good to have you with us.
JL: Thank you. Merry Christmas to you as well.
HH: I want to get to the prison reform bill and your amendment, but first, I have a personal favor to ask of you, Senator Lankford.
JL: You got it. What is it?
HH: Would you approach Leader McConnell and ask him to include on the unanimous consent resolution for appointments Charles “Cully” Stimson, the general counsel nominee for the Department of Defense Navy, Department of the Navy? He’s been languishing for two years. It’s vital to getting the Navy rebuilt. And I think it’s Senator Gillibrand and/or Reed who has a hold on him, and he ought to be on that unanimous consent resolution.
JL: You know what? I’ll check on that as well. There are a lot of folks that should be on that consent. It’s been exceptionally frustrating to try to get nominations through with so many positions that are open. And so we’ve got both judges and executive folks that should be able to get through that are not getting through. And that is one of the difficult endings to a very good session of Congress. But the last several days have been a frustrating thud at the end of it other than last night’s criminal justice bill.
HH: Well, I, if you just mention Cully to the Leader, because I think he ought to be on that list. And I know you’re fighting to reform that, and we’ll be talking a lot about that in the new year, because I think you’re going to have to go nuclear on your Democratic colleagues.
