SciGuy Spells It Out

Wednesday, September 21, 2005  |  posted by Hugh Hewitt

The Houston Chron’s SciGuy spells it out:

The best days to evacuate are today and tomorrow, as the weather will deteriorate along the Texas coast Friday, before a landfall a few hours after midnight, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

So, folks, it’s looking more and more definite that we’ll be hit by an extremely powerful storm in our own backyard. Let’s do the best we can.

I think the “best we can” means “get out.” A Houston firefighter called the program yesterday to urge people to leave Houston even though it is 40+ miles from the coast. His argument was persuasive: Every person “riding it out” in Houston complicates the situation for the first responders. It is the responsibility of people to make the situation as uncomplicated as possible. So, leave.
