Obama and The Samsung Defense: “You Didn’t Build That” Doesn’t Work With American Juries, Or Voters

Romney, Ryan in Ohio: A five point plan to invigorate the economy

My Monday Washington Examiner column notes that Samsung tried to use the “You didn’t build that” argument against Apple.
This is President Obama’s message to the private sector, and it will be as effective with the American people as Samsung’s argument was to the federal jury that gave Apple an overwhelming victory last week.
I was on CNN’s Reliable Sources Sunday, responding to a series of questions from Howard Kurtz on the networks’ non-coverage of the convention, birtherism, abortion policy and MSM bias with essentially the same answer because it is the answer that matters most: This election isn’t about anything except the economy and the awful 8.3% unemployment rate. A foreign policy crisis might change the fundamental issue, but nothing else, no matter how desperate the president’s attacks become or how low David Axelrod will urge him to go.
Voters know the economy is falling off the floor even as the real campaign season opens, and the prospect of four more years of Obamanomics is chilling. The president’s alleged “likeability,” already shredded by the gutter politics of his campaign, is going the way of his supposed eloquence. As the president stalls his way through mini-press conferences the public gets that he has nothing to say because he has nothing to point to as a success, and nothing to offer as a plan of action that isn’t immediately and obviously ludicrous. It is a very tough situation for any president to be in, but especially so for one who ran on being a different sort of candidate and who had a supermajority in Congress willing to give him anything he wanted for two years.
The smoking ruins of the Obama presidency will dominate the GOP convention just as it will dominate the voters’ minds in November.
