That’s Marco Rubio on Fox with Chris Wallace yesterday, and as the Washington Post’s Dan Nakamura profiles this morning, the Florida senator is now the key to getting a workable bill out of the Senate.
Rubio’s marathon yesterday came off without a flaw, and the outline he presented is very much not amnesty. But the details –and the defense of those details– will determine whether the bill gets enough lift out of the Senate to make it through the House and into law.
First step: Put it online. Today or soon. Rubio’s commitment to an open process and his willingness to back amendments if they make sense is another refreshing change from the failed 2007 effort.
