The Los Angeles Times embraces new media. My pal Bill Lobdell has been given a new beat, Living Vicariously In LA, which will probably replicate at most major dailies in the U.S. because it is funny and informative, and combines the internet platform that exists with existing reporting skills, video and fine writing. The first installment takes Bill back to lifeguard duty in Huntington Beach, including the 40 foot pier jump that is part of the routine for beach guards.
Watch it and suggest other “day in the life” assignments. Lobdell has already spent an hour behind my microphone –his jumping off the pier was much more smoothly executed. That’s be a few weeks out in this regular Tuesday feature.
