Israel and the Mainline Protestant Denominations
Israel is summoning reservists to its borders as the chaos in Egypt and Syria grows and as Iran continues to rush towards nukes.
The Copts in Egypt are routinely the target of violence, and the bloodshed in Syria is horrific and across all spiritual divides.
So what do the Methodists and Presbyterians do? They debate resolutions denouncing Israel and mandating divestment.
If the PCUSA votes for divestment in late June, I expect the long-expected division of the denomination to begin in earnest. The lack of moral seriousness in the old mainline denominations has reached an end point for their responsible members.
