I interviewed two lefties on Monday’s show.
Professor Steven Salaita authored a very controversial piece at Salon.com over the weekend: “No thanks: Stop saying ‘Support the troops.'” The professor came on and stayed an entire hour, answering all of my questions even when it was quite obvious we disagreed and deeply. It was a civil, if very pointed exchange. The transcript will be posted below later tonight or tomorrow.
The next hour MSNBC weekend host Karen Finney appeared –briefly. Finney made a couple of completely inane statements on her weekend show this past weekend, which I played and then began to question her about. When she refused to answer a straightforward question of historical fact –“Was Alger Hiss a communist?”– I repeated the question, many times. Each time she refused to answer. Instead she took offense that I repeated the question, the answer to which would have completely impeached either the credibility of her weekend statement or her basic book learning. She chose to hang-up instead of answering the question. That transcript and audio will also be posted as soon as it is available.
This is the modern left. Finney has the show, Salaita doesn’t. Salaita is tenured and radical in his views, Finney just another in an endless series of talking heads who don’t know enough to engage in basic arguments about the propositions they put forward on air with complete certainty. It is apparent that Finney just isn’t very bright, and that Salaita isn’t well read. The professor was at least polite and possessed of enough courage to stick around and not answer basic questions. Finney, well, just another brick-in-the-wall of MSNBC and its parent’s reputation.
