The absurd IG report –cherry picked by Carl Levin and distorted by the MSM– will be the subject of an interview with former Undersecretary of defense Douglas Feith in hour three today.
The IG was charged with discovering whether anything the Feith operation did was unlawful, unauthorized, misleading or inappropriate.
The IG report in fact rejects the charges of unlawful, unauthorized or misleading before offering up a fig leaf top critics of the DoD in the form of the “inappropriate” conclusion, which is itself an inappropriate exercise of IG authority as there is no definition to the term, and thus the report wrongly politicizes a necessary and indeed crucial part of the DoD’s mission, which is to thoroughly review the work product of the intelligence agencies, work product that has been flawed in the past (think WMDs) and on which the American military will be sent into harm’s way.
Thus the IG’s office is in fact the politicized operation in this story, and Carl Levin the cherry-picker. The damage they are doing by attempting to insulate intelligence professionals from the searching inquiries of policy makers will haunt the country for years to come if successful
