“Hillary Never Called Back”
The exploding IRS scandal –and it is growing by the hour– will absorb the attention of the ways and Means Committee and Darrell Issa’s Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Even as Issa declared on Sunday his intention to interview Ambassador Pickering and Admiral Mullen, the recognition has to be growing even in the Speaker’s office that a Select Committee on Benghazi is necessary and necessary now or focus and momentum will be lost.
The last question is: If the benghazi cover-up and the enormous breach of ethics at the IRS “escaped” the notice of the president, what other parts of his executive branch have gone off the rails in the past year as his team focused on re-electiuon to the exclusion of everything else, including security for diplomats abroad and constitutional freedom for organizers at home?
One other note: Former Secretary of Defense Gates is an impressive public servant and a great patriot, but he has no more idea what went on the night of September 11-12 in Libya than I do. Every single major scandal in the past 40 years in Washington, D.C. has seen good men and women surprised by the actions (or passivity) of men and women they thought they knew. Unless men and women in the Pentagon were leaking information to him on a real time basis –and thus breaking the law by doing so– he simply is not in a position to declare that the Administration’s account is true and that nothing could have been done.
