If there was any sign of life at Spring Street, the graph wpould be reproduced and sent around with a memo titled “Writing on the Wall.”

“6 Sigma” or “Westinghouse Rules” are corporate code for a method of analyzing
processes to see if they are under control or have become unstable. The
attached pdf is a crude application of this method to the LA Times circulation
numbers — using a 6 year average to establish ‘normal’ & MS Excel.

Drop from 1/3rd to 1/4th of population: 22 years (1980 to 2002)
Drop from 1/4th to 1/5th of population: 4 years (2002 to 2006)
