Georgia Senator David Perdue joined me on the show this morning to discuss Judge Kavanaugh:
HH: I am joined now by United States Senator David Perdue of the great state of Georgia. Senator Perdue, welcome, it’s great to talk to you.
DP: Morning, Hugh.
HH: Are you supporting Judge Kavanaugh?
DP: 100%. This is a total sham, Hugh. You wrote about it earlier this week. This is a reversion back to McCarthyism by the Democrats. I mean, it is outrageous, the character assassination. The Democrats are burning a very bedrock of our democracy, and that is the presumption of innocence in this, and this character assassination is the new low in my time here in Washington. It’s just unbelievable, Hugh.
HH: Now your colleague, Senator Ernst, told me earlier today that absent corroborating evidence of Dr. Ford’s testimony, specifically, she will be a yes vote. Do you believe 51 Republicans will have the same standard absent corroborating evidence of Dr. Ford’s testimony?
DP: I do, Hugh. I believe that we’ve done everything we can from Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Judiciary all the way down to this latest FBI investigation. We’ve done everything they’ve asked for. There is absolutely no corroborating evidence. As a matter of fact, the Democrats say well, this is just a he said, she said, and we have to decide who’s telling the truth. No, it’s more than that, because she brought corroborating witnesses, three, who could not corroborate her story. But they did actually corroborate his story. So I believe that we will get 51 votes later this week.
HH: Now there are also troubles with her testimony. And the president brought them up last night, and he’s been criticized. But I’ve got to tell you, in the first hour of today’s show, and I do this for the benefit of the audience who are just tuning in, Cathy in Scranton, Ann in Dallas, Sarah in Tampa, Ann in Detroit, Norma in Michigan, Alexandria in Newport Beach, Elaine in Louisville, Jeannie in Oregon, Shelly in Columbus, Ann in San Diego, all first-time callers to the show, all women. 10 out of 10 want Kavanaugh confirmed, 9 out of 10 applaud what the president did last night. And yet, the blue bubble media is attacking him for doing it. What do you think, Senator Perdue?
DP: You know, Hugh, I traveled my state a lot in the last couple of weeks. And I hear from women all over. They know that the bedrock founding principles of our founding mothers and fathers is sacrosanct. And this presumption of innocence cannot be waved around the way the Democrats are doing it right now. This is an absolute travesty for the American justice system. I can’t wait to get him confirmed. Look, the Democrats are the ones that are conducting a war on women, by the way, Hugh. The person that’s been abused in this whole process is Dr. Ford. The Democrats promised to not reveal this. This could have been done confidentially, which is what she wanted. Instead, someone up here either in the Congresswoman’s office of in Senator Feinstein’s office, somebody leaked that letter. And now, after that, it became public. This is outrageous. And by the way, three weeks after Dianne Feinstein had this letter, she had her personal interview with Judge Kavanaugh. She didn’t mention it at all. There wasn’t one word of conversation about the letter when she met with him privately the first time.
HH: You know who else has been abused, and I believe, I’ve been thinking about this a lot, because I’ve never seen this kind of a reaction, I’ve been doing radio since 1990, is that a 10 year old daughter and a 14 year old daughter are going to be hearing about this from friends and foes, and cheap shots, for the rest of their lives. They’re going to hear their father accused of being a gang rapist. They’re going to hear their father accused of being a drunk. And it’s all without any kind of precedent. And I think Americans are revolted by that, Senator Perdue.
DP: Hugh, this is what’s going on. Let me give you some quotes of the Democrats. My wife was physically accosted this week at the airport here in Washington. I was physically accosted by members of the Senate Republic Democracy. Now these people are funded by the Open Society Foundation. That’s George Soros. He has put, listen to this, $32 billion, that’s with a B, Hugh, into that organization over the last few years. This is open warfare. Here’s what Senator Booker said. Get up in their face, in some Congress people. Maxine Waters said they’re not going to be able to go to the restaurant. They’re not going to be able to go to the gas station. They’re not going to be able to shop in the department store. Get up in their face, absolutely harass them. I mean, this is not the America that I came to serve. This is not the America that women back home want. This is not the America that we fought and died for over the last 200 years. I’m telling you, Maxine Waters, Cory Booker, Nancy Pelosi, shame on them, Hugh. Nancy Pelosi says I don’t know why we aren’t all uprising, why there aren’t uprisings all over the country.
HH: Well, Jerry Nadler has threatened impeachment proceedings. I hope no one is taking that seriously, because he did not lie. This whole controversy about drinking, it’s all manufactured, the devil’s triangle, it’s all manufactured. He did not lie, and Jerry Nadler threatening perjury proceedings is a joke. Does anyone take that seriously?
DP: No, not up here, not the people who know the facts. I mean, we’ve looked at the testimony, we’ve heard all the witnesses. I mean, this is absolute zero case. There is not a district attorney in the world, or in the country, that would have taken this to a judge for prosecution. I honestly, I think, you know, when Chris Coons says Judge Kavanaugh, who’s seeking a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court, and I’m reading this, and who I now think bears the burden of disproving these allegations, that’s a U.S. senator, Hugh. I’m calling these guys out, because this is the bedrock of what we fought for all these years. I mean, the presumption of innocence is what McCarthyism challenged, and you called that out. This is the closest thing to McCarthyism I’ve seen in the last 50 years.
HH: Last question, do you think he’ll be confirmed by Saturday?
DP: I do. I think we should see the FBI report, you know, even the Democrats said it shouldn’t take three or four days, so we should see that as early as tomorrow and get the procedural vote out of the way. And before we leave this week, we were told yesterday we will get a vote on him, and I believe we’ll get him confirmed.
HH: Senator David Perdue of Georgia, thank you.
End of interview.
