Expresso Pundit and Senator McCain

Wednesday, November 15, 2006  |  posted by Hugh Hewitt

I spoke to the fall dinner of the Council on Arizona Policy last night, and beforehand had a chance to meet ExpressoPundit  –clearly the go-to blogger on Arizon politics.  A former state legislator turned law student, EP has become an alternative to the old media in Arizona, and his audience will continue to grow even as the Republic’s and similar dinosaurs see their declines accelerate.

Off to D.C. where I will broadcast from the Heritage Foundation today and tomorrow, with a focus on the new Congressional leadership.  Senator McConnell is expected to open the program, and invites are out to most of the other would-be leaders.  I have also extended an invitation to Senator McCain, and would gladly give an hour to a conversation about the party and its way back.

I have often invited Senator McCain to appear on the program, and he has yet to accept.  Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney and every other would-be president will always be welcome on the program over the next year leading to Iowa and beyond (as would any Democratic candidate) and I hope we can persuade Senator McCain to talk directly with the Republican base via shows such as mine rather than through the MSM.  We’ll see.
