The Washington Post has bios on seven of the victims in yesterday’s rampage. Some of short but still tear at the hear: “A neighbor of Frank Kohler in St. Mary’s County said he was married with two daughters. A family member declined to comment.” Kohler was 50, his girls probably in their teens, his wife left alone after an ordinary start to just another week early in the school year.
The Post will no doubt add to the page as details emerge and it should be the first stop for every pundit commenting on yesterday’s events.
Journalists are of course off on the search for motive, but whether he was a mentally-ill maniac or a Bhuddist-turned-jihadist (very unlikely), the explanation will hardly matter at all to the families, friends and co-workers, for whom no explanation or a hundred will do little to ease their loss.
