Hugh and James Lileks

The transcript of the interview with Congressman Barletta will be posted here, but the audio is really necessary to appreciate the cliff over which the GOP has fallen.

UPDATE:  Wonderfully, an email arrived from Congressman barletta today, pleading for donations:

Lou Barletta for Congress
Patriot –Our fight to stop the proposed amnesty has started.  On Tuesday I submitted two bills that will focus the debate back on the problem of illegal immigration.  One starts to fix part of the illegal immigration problem while the other exposes 25 years of lies from the amnesty lobby.

The Visa Overstay Enforcement Act of 2013 fixes the major problem of visa overstays. The current lack of enforcement in this area accounts for over 40% of illegal immigrants in America.

They legally enter the U.S. but overstay their visas because they know it’s virtually impossible to catch them and even if we do, all they will get a slap on the wrist. My Visa Overstay Enforcement Act gives the DHS the tools and power to fix this hole in our national security.

It takes a simple approach. Many immigrants entering and exiting the country will be fingerprinted, and their prints will be tied to their visa. Once we have this biometric record, we can catch the expired visa holders.

If they are found in America with expired visas, the Visa Overstay Enforcement Act makes it a felony. There will be real consequences for breaching America’s sovereign borders.

The 1986 Amnesty Transparency Act commissions the first comprehensive study from the Government Accounting Office on the effectiveness of 1986 “reform”.  The amnesty lobby told us that their law would solve the immigration problem, but more than 25 years later it’s only gotten worse.  We have to figure out what went wrong to prevent us from repeating the same mistakes.

Hopefully, these bills will change the debate. They focus real border security while the truth behind the 1986 law’s failure.  We can start to address the real problems behind illegal immigration instead of taking the politically convenient way out.

The political smear machines of amnesty lobby and the DCCC have started to target me for trying to fix our illegal immigration, and I need your help to stand against their vicious lies and slander.  Will you help me today by making a donation?

Sincerely,

Lou Barletta
