The estimable Stephen Colbert had fun with me last night, and so all I can do to thank him is begin my campaign to have Colbert named as America’s new Ambassador to the United Nations after Mitt Romney’s big win in November.
This “Colbert for the U.N.” campaign, which will be sustained at every level of the deep-pocketed and shadowy GOP establishment that, since Citizens United, have controlled every aspect of national life, makes abundant sense. Among the arguments in its favor: Colbert won’t have to commute and he can make pretty much every night’s show.
I have been a guest on Colbert’s in the past and hope to return in the near future when my new book appears in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, when you give to the Romney campaign, be sure to include the suggestion that Colbert’s appointment be hinted at often and especially during the GOP convention.
