“Coach Wants To See You. Bring Your Playbook.”

The DCCC is sending out the word to doomed Congressional candidates, both incumbents and high-profile challengers, that their games are over.

This is very far out from election day to be tossed off the bus and under its wheels, and it will be interesting to watch Reps. Kathy Dahlkemper (D-PA), Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL) and Steve Driehaus (D-OH) go through the motions of their campaigns. Once you get placed in the “dead candidate” room, all sorts of bad things start to happen –vendors want to get paid and won’t extend credit; potential donors don’t answer the phone; even long-time staff spend lots of time whispering on the their cells and putting their resume onto PDFs for ease in sending. What had been a campaign is now a slow, awful political wake. The volunteers stay home. The signs stack up undistributed. The GOTV effort remains a plan on paper, and thus the entire statewide effort sags.

Try finding a band for the victory party after the DCCC declares your campaign unwinnable.

Like Billy Bones receiving the black spot in Treasure Island, some of the candidates won’t react well to being marked as doomed. As John Boccieri and Zach Space slip under the waves in the Buckeye State, will they try and save their dignity by noting for their supporters that Pelosi made them do it? As Ed Perlmutter fades in Colorado, or Arizona’s endangered tribe of Pelosi loyalists falls further and further behind, will any of them express regret for having supported the big lurch left led by San Fran Nan?

Lots more black spots have to go out from Nancy’s castle, and very quickly. The Dems have to figure out their defensible lines or the losses on 11/2 will mount. Loretta Sanchez might be screaming on the other line about racism among voters of Vietnamese descent, but do Nancy P. and Chris Holland pour scarce money into making Loretta feel better about losing or do they rush the resources to Barney Frank’s suddenly panicked operations?

“Now, if I can’t get away nohow, and they tip me the black spot, mind you, it’s my old sea-chest they’re after,” Billy Bones fretted as his doom drew closer.

“But what is the black spot, captain?” his young friend asked..

“That’s a summons, mate. I’ll tell you if they get that. But you keep your weather-eye open, Jim, and I’ll share with you equals, upon my honour.”

All across the country Democratic candidates are trying to get their urgent demands for help through to the DCCC, the DSCC and the DNC. But those same candidates don’t want incoming calls from the grim reaper come to tell them that no more help is on the way. And the party bosses, who gambled with so many careers last spring when they insisted on smashing through Obamacare, aren’t going to even pause to say sorry as they try and minimize losses.

Some loyalists in the MSM will try and and find some good news to write about, and that is a fine thing for a lefty JournoLista to do amid the gathering gloom.

At some point, very soon I suspect, the lefty elites have to start assigning blame so as to avoid it falling on them. This isn’t an easy thing to pull off. Plant the story of the debacle’s roots too early and the bitter-enders could organize some retribution.

But wait too long to get the scribblers the key facts about the “brain trust” that cooked up “recovery summer” and the jam down of Obamacare and the story will spin away forever.

Be on the look out for black spotted candidates and spinning survivors. Send along pointers please. The next 20 days are going to be the political equivalent of Napoleon’s retreat from Moscow for the Democrats. Who, we have to wonder, will the president blame? Certainly not himself.

Take a look at the picture at the top of the post. You are looking at the Democrats’ “architect.”

And remember, you read it here first.
