CNN’s new poll purports to identify the members of the Tea Party movement as tending to be “male, rural, upscale and overwhelmingly conservative.” The story is based on a total of 124 respondents out of a total sample of 1,024 that indicated some level of involvement with the Tea Parties. The headline: “CNN Poll: Who are the Tea Party activists.”
Does CNN not have an editor for stories based on polling? Does no one at the network care that this is laughable, and a further incentive for any member of the audience who has actual experience in the Tea Party movement to dismiss the credibility of the network?
124 respondents. Does anyone think that it is reasonable to draw any conclusion on the basis of such a sample? Does anyone think that is “journalism”?
