Captain Jack Punches was killed in the attack on the Pentagon on 9/11/01.  A few weeks after the attack I ran the Marine Corps Marathon behind a man wearing Captain Punches’  name on his back, a runner who appeared to have decided to make the race as a tribute to Captain Punches.  The race course took us past the site of the airplane’s collision with the Pentagon, and many stopped and honored the dead at that spot.  I don’t know if Captain Pu8nches’ friend finished the race as I didn’t see his bib number, only his back.  But I have not forgotten his name, and hope others won’t either.

Here is the resolution passed by the Virginia Legislature honoring Captain Punches.
