Bush, Lincoln, Doris and Dean, And A Modest Suggestions

My new column was written after yesterday’s interview with Doris Kearns Goodwin and makes the case that there are compelling parallels between President Bush and President Lincoln, and even though the left denounces such comparisons, some are so powerful that even historians like Kearns Goodwinwho are reluctant to endorse any aspect of Bush’s conduct of the war have to concede some points in the debate.

But after the interview and the column, I read Dean Barnett’s post from late yesterday, and was struck by this admission by Dean:

People like me, people who understood what Rumsfeld was getting at and never lost the heart of it
