Mike Allen of Politico.com called his readers' attention to this remarkable private school in Washington D.C.
Here's what Mike wrote in his
morning Playbook:
For anyone who feels fortunate: a gift to Cornerstone School, a remarkable oasis in inner-city D.C. that serves 200 students, almost all African-American, in pre-K through eighth grade. ONE family in the student body pays tuition, and the rest need scholarships. This is the most efficient place we’ve found to give — there’s no bureaucracy: You write a check, they pay for heat. The new principal is Clay Hanna, a young father of three and former Army captain who was awarded the Bronze Star after leading 600 combat patrols and 84 raids in Iraq. Disclosure: We’re friends with Clay, which is why we can personally vouch for the efficacy of your donation. A total of $4,000 sponsors a student; $30,000 covers a class; any amount will be used lovingly. Candice Santomauro, Director of Development, 419 Ridge Rd. S.E., Washington, DC 20019.
