Benghazi and the “Blue Collar Conservative”

The transcript of my conversation with CNN’s Jake Tapper about Jay Carney’s “obfuscation” is here, and that of press secretaries past and present with Mark Steyn is here.

I’ll be talking Benghazi with former United States Senator and once (and future?) presidential candidate Rick Santorum tonight at 7 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley.  For a ticket, you have to make a reservation here.

Senator Santorum’s new book is Blue Collar Conservatives: Recommitting To An America That Works, and  no doubt we will be talking about whether the ideas in the book will work in Iowa –again.

The New York Times this morning is full of Jeb Bush and Chris Christie speculation, and the question of “wither the big money donors” is a little odd given that first you have to have a candidate, and then you have too survive February ’16, which looks like it might be officially declared Ted Cruz Month as I write about here in last week’s Weekly Standard.  Not a few of the big donors will be in the unusual (for them) position of urging Rick Santorum back into the Iowa fray for the purpose of slowing down the Cruz express and might find some love for Rand Paul in New Hampshire and Rick Perry in South Carolina for the same reason.

But the big donors don’t get out as much as the talk show hosts do.  Ted Cruz captured the hearts of the GOP base last fall.  John Boehner’s stinging mockery of his own caucus did little to warm them towards anything bearing the brand “Beltway Approved.”  Rick Santorum knows both sides of the divide as well as anyone, and that’s what we will be talking about tonight.  If you are near the Great Communicator’s Library, come out at 7 and hear the conversation.

Meanwhile, don’t miss Stephen Hayes’ assessment of the growing tower of lies surrounding Benghazi.  That tower has already begun to topple and the fall is accelerating.  With the president’s numbers already in the basement, the reality of the Obamacare numbers arriving in dribs and drab, a .1% growth rate and the continued collapse of America’s position in the world on display every day, it is going to be a long, very hot summer for the Democrats.
