The BBC reports a French woman has been hospitalized and is in isolation after developing what her doctors fear is H5N1. She had been travelling in Turkey. The report does not undicate she had contact with birds.

The WSJ.com picked up on the Vice President’s warning given on my show, and it will be instructive to see how France reacts if indeed this is H5N1 and the woman did not have contact withg birds. Almost certainly Turkey will see a decline in tourism, and perhaps some travel restrictions?

It is encouraging to see how quickly French doctors reacted, and also got the story out.

Harvard Magazine has this article on preparing for the virus’ arrival.

Thanks to read Paul R. for the pointer on the BBC story.

UPDATE: Two rounds of tests are negative, She does not have H5N1.
