Ah, The List

The book opens at #25 on The New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction Best Sellers list, always a nice way to begin a weekend.

I expected A Mormon In The White House to open with solid sales and steady growth as interest in the campaign grew.  All of us connected to the book are surprised by the intense focus on Campaign 2008 that already exists, and I wonder if the other new face in the race –Barack Obama– has attracted a writer yet.  Memoirs are fine –I think Romney’s memoir of his years at the head of the Salt Lake Olympics is must reading for every reporter covering the campaign, as are Obama’s first and second book and Hillary’s memoir— but the biography, achievements and presidential ambitions of Hillary, Rudy and now Romney have all been assessed in full-length by independent efforts backed by a major publisher.  I hope Senator Obama’s life is as well.

Note: The Times also lists by the category of political books, and the book opens there at #18, as noted by The Caucus.
