Planners bet on moving Ann Romney to a live address on Tuesday night.
She winds, she shoots, she scores. A combination of quick references to the the ordinary trials of life with small children –“the quickest route to the emergency room”– with an almost casual reference to her MS and breast cancers, established that her achievements with Mitt Romney as her partner are truly impressive and enduring. The headlines across all media, new and old, on Wednesday morning confirm what the convention-goers felt: Ann Romney is a wonderful wife, mother, daughter and friend and will make a terrific First Lady.
Chris Christie followed with a stern and inspiring challenge to tackle the toughest problems and to let Mitt Romney lead that effort. Christie radiates authenticity, and he did so with particular force when it came time to extoll Romney.
Two fine speeches that reminded the country of the size of the problems it confronts and the approach that is necessary to solve those problems. A perfect set-up night on every level. Hats off to convention planners.
