On September 6, 1943, Winston Churchill addressed the faculty and students of Harvard. The world was at war, but Churchill spoke of the role of America in that world then –and very much now. I write about the speech at the WeeklyStandard.com. The piece went up a few hours ahead of the anniversary, but it isn’t too early to start the anniversary reading of that address.
Churchill was very much a partisan, but he put aside partisanship when Great Britain required it. Will the president do the same? No indication of that two weeks into this crisis, but that is what is needed if he is going to win his AUMF in the House. He ought to call W and former VP Cheney and ask for help with the GOP. If he understands the stakes, he will.
