The Obama Sequestration looms and the president has done nothing to avert it. Golfing with Tiger doesn’t count as working the problem.
Here’s the short formula to avoiding it:
“Chain” the CPI for Social Security
Raise the eligibility age for Medicare and tie it to the retirement age for Social Security while also raising the latter above its current step-up.
Block-grant Medicaid to the states with a cap on annual increases and the authority to design operate the programs from the states and not D.C.
Allow the Pentagon complete flexibility to implement its share of the reduced round of cuts via civilian personnel reductions without regard to other law.
Repeal the medical devices tax so as an immediate relief to one key sector of the economy.
Impose a regulatory moratorium on the EPA and the Department of the Interior to prevent additional job killing rules from spilling out of those bureaucracies.
If the GOP doesn’t get this sort of package from the president, the president should get the Obama Sequester as he designed it.
There’s a lot of nonsense being printed these days –see, for example, the Washington Post’s “Will higher taxes on the rich derail California’s economic comeback?” Like so much of Democratic Party rhetoric, this article simply gathers up some happy talk from economists and uses it to paper over the reality of investor and business flight from California.
Similarly, the president’s palace guard in the MSM is simply refusing to cover the president’s refusal to suggest a detailed outline of how to avoid the Obama Sequester or the Senate’s inability to pass a plan to do the same.
The reality cannot be spun, however, and the cuts the president demanded two years ago are now arriving and he won’t embrace or even propose a realistic alternative, or any other measures to help economic growth rebound. It’s his sequester. It is his economy. He built it. He, Harry Reid and Jerry Brown.
